Internship 2017

The class of 2017 commenced with 15 young people offered placements with mentor businesses across Angus, Moray, Perthshire and Aberdeenshire.

To-date 13 candidates remain in work with their mentors, with the programme coming to a close on the 5th January 2018.

Overview 

The internship is designed to provide young people with a broad overview of the rural sector and the vocational opportunities that the sector can offer through a structured programme of training and mentoring.

Programme Partners


  • SRUC: Provide the facilities for the three week residential induction at the Craibstone campus. SRUC also deliver the SRUC Certificate of work readiness (CWR) together with additional training units.
  • Ringlink Scotland: Provide the day-to-day management of the programme, recruit and support farmer mentors, and provide the training programme for the interns.

Intern Placement Overview

  • 26 weeks fully paid work placement on a farm or suitable rural business.
  • Programme starts mid June.
  • First three-weeks will comprise induction and training.
  • Additional training will be provided on an individual needs basis.
  • A total of up to £1500 of training will be offered to each Intern.
  • In addition, there will be input from industry professionals.
  • Payment for time worked is in accordance with the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board (SAWB).
  • All interns who successfully complete the 7-month programme will receive a certificate of completion awarded from Ringlink.

 

The Work Placement

  • On successful completion of the initial three week induction, interns will take up their placement with a predetermined Mentor.
  • The activities carried out by interns will be entirely dependent upon those available within the placement business.
  • The mentor will play a vital role in identifying the capabilities of the intern and will offer both encouragement and support to promote progression and development.
  • Through the placement period, interns will be expected to contribute fully to the business by actively engaging in their allocated tasks.
  • Opportunities for further development will be made available through arranged visits to a variety of rural businesses.
  • Additional training courses will be made available through the placement period dependent upon the requirements of the business and the intern.

Terms and Conditions


  • Interns will be expected to work a minimum 40 hours per week.
  • Payment for time worked is in accordance with the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board (SAWB).
  • Holidays will be accrued over the 6 month period as per the Scottish Agricultural Wages Board (SAWB).
